Vancouver, BC - January 27, 2025 - The Musqueam Nation is moving forward with the transformative Musqueam Nation Building project surrounding the Burrard Street Bridge, set for completion in 2030. This ambitious initiative represents a convergence of cultural heritage, community development, and self-determination.

On June 22, 2023, a significant ceremony was held to honor renowned artist Darren Yelton, marking a pivotal moment as his welcome figure at Sen̓ákw was lowered for refurbishment. Yelton and his brothers have committed to renewing this iconic carving on-site, with plans for its reinstatement at Sen̓ákw later. This reflects the effort to maintain and celebrate Musqueam artistic expression as the project progresses.

The project has seen considerable advancements, especially in the construction of three towers at Sen̓ákw. As of now, Tower 3 has reached its 17th level, Tower 2 has hit its 10th, and Tower 1 is nearing its sixth. The installation of the curtain wall has begun, showcasing a beautiful façade that is now visible from the Burrard Street Bridge in Kitsilano. With the full building permit secured for all towers and an underground parkade, crews are also busy with steel stud framing and electrical installations.

Additionally, Creative Energy has completed its connection to Metro Vancouver’s sewer main, facilitating the heat extraction that will power Sen̓ákw’s heating and cooling systems. The City of Vancouver is upgrading essential infrastructure to support the increased demand, and an additional construction access road is nearing completion.

Importantly, the project aims to include 250 affordable housing units specifically for Squamish People, managed by the Nation’s non-profit housing society, Hiy̓ám̓ Housing. The application process will open approximately six months prior to the buildings' completion, which is staggered between November 2025 and July 2026 for Phase One, with Phase Two concluding in early 2028. This initiative not only enhances urban living for the Musqueam Nation but also paves the way for a more inclusive and vibrant community.
