Vancouver, BC - February 18, 2025 - Lufthansa Airlines continues to enhance its premium services, focusing on passenger convenience and technological integration. Beyond their innovative baggage collection and check-in service, Lufthansa has introduced several premium offerings to elevate the travel experience.

Integration of Apple AirTag for Enhanced Baggage Tracking

In a significant move to improve baggage handling, Lufthansa Group airlines—including Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and Eurowings—have integrated Apple AirTag tracking into their baggage tracing systems. This service allows passengers to share their AirTag's location data securely with the airline's digital baggage tracing channels. By incorporating this information, Lufthansa aims to expedite the retrieval process for lost or delayed luggage, providing travelers with real-time updates and peace of mind. This initiative reflects Lufthansa's commitment to leveraging technology for a seamless travel experience.

Automated and Biometric Check-In Counters

To further streamline the airport experience, Lufthansa has unveiled state-of-the-art check-in counters at Frankfurt Airport's Terminal 1, specifically in Concourses A and B. These 21 automated baggage drop-off counters are available around the clock, enabling passengers to check in their luggage swiftly, even outside regular hours. Equipped with components for future biometric and contactless processes, these counters are designed to reduce waiting times and enhance operational efficiency. This development underscores Lufthansa's dedication to modernizing airport infrastructure and improving passenger convenience.

Digital Shopping Experience in Collaboration with Fraport

In partnership with Fraport, Lufthansa has launched a digital shopping platform to enrich the passenger experience at Frankfurt Airport. The "Lounge Shopping" service allows travelers in select Lufthansa lounges to purchase exclusive products from airport retailers using provided iPads. Purchased items are delivered directly to the lounge within 30 minutes. Additionally, the upcoming "Inflight Shopping" service will enable passengers on long-haul flights to Frankfurt to shop for products during their flight and collect them upon arrival. These services aim to offer greater comfort, quality, and choice, transforming the way passengers shop during their journey.

Through these premium services, Lufthansa demonstrates its commitment to enhancing the travel experience by integrating cutting-edge technology and prioritizing passenger convenience.

About Lufthansa

Lufthansa is a German airline organized in Cologne, West Germany, on January 6, 1953, jointly by the federal government, the German National Railway, and the state of North Rhine–Westphalia; later it accepted private investors. It was the successor to Deutsche Luft Hansa, or DLH, which was founded in 1926 and was formally liquidated in 1951. The new airline, initially called Aktiengesellschaft für Luftverkehrsbedarf, or Luftag, adopted the old name, but, whereas the old company had been familiarly called DLH, the new one was just called Lufthansa. Headquarters are in Cologne, Germany.

In German, "Hansa" refers to a historic trade alliance known as the Hanseatic League (Hanse in German). This was a powerful commercial and defensive confederation of merchant guilds and market towns that dominated trade across Northern Europe from the 12th to the 17th century. The name Lufthansa combines Luft (meaning "air") and Hansa, symbolizing a prestigious, global trading and transport network, much like the Hanseatic League once was.
