Langley Township has set an ambitious target to address housing demand and support its growing population. Over the next five years, the municipality aims to build 14,121 homes, with a long-term goal of constructing 43,039 homes over the next two decades. Notably, over a third of the demand—10,972 homes—is directly tied to anticipated population growth.

Exceeding Targets and Addressing Demand

The Township has already demonstrated its ability to meet housing targets, building 8,280 homes since 2020. This progress puts Langley well ahead of its five-year goal, showcasing the municipality’s proactive approach to addressing the region’s housing needs. The rapid pace of development not only reflects Langley’s commitment to accommodating its growing population but also highlights its appeal as a desirable place to live.

Supporting Growth with Enhanced Transit Options

With this growth comes the need for improved transportation infrastructure. TransLink, Metro Vancouver’s regional transportation authority, is planning to expand its network by introducing a new RapidBus service. This route would travel along 200 Street in Langley, extend across the Golden Ears Bridge, and connect to Maple Ridge.

The new RapidBus service would complement the SkyTrain extension currently under construction, which will connect Langley to Maple Ridge. By integrating these transit options, Langley aims to provide residents with efficient, environmentally-friendly alternatives to car travel, supporting both local and regional mobility.

Looking Ahead

As Langley Township continues its rapid growth, collaboration between local authorities, developers, and regional stakeholders will be crucial. Meeting long-term housing goals while ensuring adequate infrastructure and community services will define Langley’s success as a thriving hub within Metro Vancouver.
