Part 1: Lets Talk Canada
Now that our family is based in Budapest, Hungary, we’ve managed to set up two geographic hubs: one serving the Americas and the other covering the UK and EMEA. Sounds efficient, right? Well, sure—if you enjoy balancing cultural quirks with the finesse of a trapeze artist juggling flaming torches. The commercial and networking differences between these regions are enough to give even the most seasoned CEO a migraine—or at least make you reach for a glass of Hungarian wine.
Let’s start with North America. Ah, the U.S. and Canada—two countries that share a border but couldn’t be more different when it comes to business. In the U.S., everything is fast-paced, like a Wall Street stock ticker on steroids. Networking events there are like speed dating with business cards. People shake your hand, ask what you do, and by the time you’ve blinked, you’ve either closed a deal or been ghosted. And don’t be surprised if they hit you up on LinkedIn before you’ve left the room.
Canada, on the other hand, is a land of politeness and patience. Networking there involves a lot of “sorrys,” and the pace? Let’s just say no one’s rushing to close the deal before they’ve had at least two more meetings to ensure everyone's feelings are in check. But if you’re looking for a business partner who’ll help shovel your driveway in winter, Canada’s your place. Just don’t bring up hockey unless you’ve got three hours to spare.
