Vancouver Kidsbooks has been a beloved cornerstone of Kitsilano's literary community since its inception in 1983. Founded by Phyllis Simon, the store began as a small idea during a challenging economic climate but quickly grew into a thriving haven for young readers and their families

The original location on West 4th Avenue set the stage for what would become a cherished institution. In 1987, the store moved to its current, larger location at 2557 West Broadway, allowing it to expand its offerings and host even more community events. Over the years, Kidsbooks also opened additional locations, including a store in Edgemont Village, North Vancouver, in 1995

Today, Vancouver Kidsbooks continues to be a vibrant and exciting environment for children and adults alike. The store offers a wide range of books for all ages, from board books for babies to young adult novels. In addition to books, Kidsbooks provides a variety of educational toys, games, puzzles, and art supplies

One of the highlights of Kidsbooks' history is its role in hosting the first Canadian launch of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series in 1998. At its former location on West Broadway (a few blocks from its current location), Kidsbooks celebrated each book release with great fanfare. Decorating the storefront with a themed facade, Kidsbooks created magical experiences for fans of all ages that came out in costumes and excitedly lined up waiting for the store to open on launch day of a new book in the series.
